Birdbath is an eco-friendly bakery located in New York City. When I found out about the premise of their business of keeping a sustainable and environmentally friendly bakery, I wanted to create a new logo and website for them; something homey and friendly, cute and yet sophisticated.

Lights Out America 2008

I found out about this campaign called Lights Out America, which asks people all across the country to participate in turning off their lights for one hour on March 29, 2008, from 8 to 9 p.m. The purpose is to make a statement about how energy conservation can fight the effects of global warming and light pollution. I want to help Lights Out America spread their message and let people know about this event. So I collaborated with my fellow designer, Micah Rich, to create a short commercial for them, based on the idea that “The absence of light is enlightening.” Along with the commercial we also developed posters to promote the event.

Everything from A–Z is what you’ll find in this book. This is an illustrated ABC book about all the weird and most bizarre things people sell on eBay. I thought it was something that we all can relate to; how many of us have sold, bought, and bid on eBay? I think it’s both fascinating and kind of ridiculous that one can find anything, and I mean absolutely anything, in the world’s giant auction.

Sunset Cinema

This is a project that I collaborated on with a fellow designer, Micah Rich. We set out to redesign the identity of Sunset Cinema, an outdoor movie theater. We came up with three design objectives that are appropriate for this company, which are: fun, friendly, and open. With these objectives, we created an identity manual, and we show off the new Sunset Cinema identity by creating some applications, everything from stationery and a website, to signage and food packaging. We want to create a look that’s playful and shows the unique outdoor aspect of Sunset Cinema.

Otis Career Services

The Otis Career Services, which is a part of the Student Affairs office at Otis College of Art and Design, is looking to recreate their look. They want to rebrand themselves to be more appealing and friendly to Otis students and alumni. They also want their look to be more consistent with the new Otis identity. The Career Services is about helping students to jump-start their career, it’s about growing one’s career, and this is where the tag line “Grow your career” came from. I use this concept of growth to create illustrations and design elements for the different Career Services marketing materials.

Coffee Bean

When I got the opportunity to redesign a packaging that’s already exist on the market for a school project, I went to the local grocery store’s coffee aisle and found that Coffee Bean’s packaging doesn’t hold up against other coffee-house brands, such as Starbucks. So I chose three different line extensions of their flavored coffee. Then I created new art works for the packaging focusing on the different ingredients to show the high quality and sophistication of the product. I also changed the material from plastic bags to sturdy aluminum cans to make them stand out more on the shelf.

In Black and White

Here are some black and white photo-
graphy that I’ve done over the years.
I find the traditional techniques of black
and white photography to be quite difficult,
especially dark-room printing. But I did end
up with some good images and I learned a
lot about the process of photo printing.
With a lot of these black and white photos
I like to play around with perception. I like
images that show mundane and ordinary
objects in a way that I’ve never seen before,
I think it’s one of the things that makes
photography fun.

Disney Concert Hall

Here are a few of the photos that I took during my trip to the Disney Concert Hall. This building is definitely one of the most interesting pieces of architecture I’ve seen. It’s got beautiful curves and these amazing abstract shapes, it makes a lot of the photos that I took look pretty abstract, which I love! The actual layout of the space is pretty complex and unexpected; it’s almost like a huge maze inside.

I went to the Getty Museums with a friend. First we went to the Getty Center and the following week we went to the Villa. They’re both pretty amazing. The weird thing was that both times we spent almost all our time there outdoors admiring the gardens and the plant life. I think the art outside is just as beautiful as the art inside the museum.

The Old Mission

This old mission is probably one of the oldest in California. It’s called the San Juan Capistrano Mission. It was built in 1776. It reminded me of those old western movies. It’s a really peaceful place and we went there because apparently my dad remember an old song talking about the place, I think it’s called “When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano.” When I was there the inside of the church was being renovated, but it was still pretty nice.
