This family tree is a response to a
text message my cousin wrote me
from Indonesia. She wrote about
what’s going on back home, and I
felt so far away from the place I was
born. With this painting I wanted to
show how I had left the rest of my
extended family when I migrated to
America and how I had started my
own path in life, a new branch in
the family tree.
