This is a redesign of the City Beat Magazine cover. Using the featured article “Ask the Dust,” from this City Beat edition I wanted to create an illustration for the magazine cover. The article is about how L.A. is taking water away from Owens Valley all these years. I want to focus on the idea of L.A. draining and sucking the life out of Owens Valley, and emphasize the contrast between the two places. So in the painting I illustrated two worlds: the dried up Owens Valley being drained by the bright and lively city below it, which is Los Angeles.
